Why do you take a deposit from people making a first booking? asks Jane.....
A couple of reasons. I dont know about you Jane, but I am a bit nervous when I book somewhere I dont know for the first time due to my own past experiences where I have turned up to for appointments to be told I have no booking. By paying a deposit with us you can be assured you have an appointment.
Also, regrettably it works the other way too, as has been the salons experience (15 years of it!!!) that there are some clients who would not bother to turn up for appointments. We don't know who they are going to be so we have to take a deposit from every new client to be sure. Then we can assure our regular clients, of which we hope you will become one, they will not be let down by new clients not coming in where they could have had the appointment.
And also from Jane Why do you make a charge when people cancel appointments?
We do not charge any time that a client cancels an appointment , Jane.
We normally make a small charge of £5 (some salons make a charge of up to 50% of the appointment booked!!) if a client either cancels or changes their appointment with less than 24 hours notice or does not even show up for their booking. (Yes it does happen! )
The charge is not a penalty charge, but a small fee to cover our losses including telephone calls we may make either to call them if a client does not come in or to try and fill the space with another booking. If we did not make this charge then we would have to add something to all our prices to accommodate the losses.
We do usually advise clients of our policy on the first booking. It is also noted here on our web site and in the salon price list.
"I was not happy with the service received on a recent visit to a beauty salon what should I do?"
It is never pleasant to complain , or receive a complaint. However, I would always encourage anybody to go back to the salon in question and let the owner/ manager know if you were not happy about any aspect of the service. We do not set out to deliberately upset clients and if nobody tells us we have then how do we know we are getting something wrong. At least give us the opportunity to correct the situation.
I would like to mention some of the situations I have recently dealt with as I think it is important to see things from both sides:-
A client had a reaction following waxing. We were able to discuss the possible causes and follow a particular course of action on the next treatment to avoid this happening again. If the client had gone elsewhere there was a chance that she would have reacted in the same way and may have kept on trying other salons - blaming the therapist each time, with no resolution until the root cause was uncovered.
I was very concerned recently to hear about a client of mine who apparently felt a need to complain in another salon rather loudly about an issue she had regarding an event that had taken place at LIBRA. Unfortunately I received the report third hand so cannot be sure of the exact story told. I was upset that she had not felt able to come to me and talk about it and now appeared to be creating a poor image of my salon. I understood her perspective but feel it was blown completely out of proportion to the event. I had asked if she would mind changing to a different therapist for her treatment on that day so we could accomodate another client. When she said she preferred to stay with the therapist she had been booked with I made it so, but she insisted on knowing the full reason why I wanted her to change which I endeavoured to explain. She allegedly reported to the other salon that I had made the move without asking her and felt that as a long standing client she had been badly treated.
I would like her and others to understand how difficult it can be to get it right for everybody and we do not set out to upset clients deliberately. But if we do get it wrong we are not pshycic so let us know, please!
A client has asked "What can be done about those little "spots" on the tops of my arm? Think it is called Keratosis Pilaris?
Keratosis Pilaris is a very common skin condition where the skin feels rough or spiky as though it has permanent goose bumps. The most common area for this rash to occur are upper arms and thighs, sometimes the back and chest are also affected. It is due to increased amounts of skin scaling in the pores. It is harmless and is not infectious.
No treatment clears the condition entirely. Exfoliation with loofah or grains on a regular basis can help. Creams containing Salicylic acid, Lactic acid or Hydroxy acid may be more beneficial than ordinary moisturisers which have limited benefits.
Su from Stopsley has asked............
How can I look younger on a budget?
First the basics for any of us........take good care of your general well being.
Eat a healthy diet, sleep well, drink lots of water, get some exercise, try and keep the stress levels down, try not to drink too much alcohol and dont smoke! Apart from all the health factors and the damage it does to the skin smoking is expensive and the money is better spent on good products.
Next the skin care......a regular cleansing skin care regime is essential followed by using a good moisturiser and a high Sun Protection cream (at least SPF25) every day. A dry skin will show lines and wrinkles more and sun damage ages the skin.
Dont make costly mistakes by buying the wrong products. You wont be much better off buying less expensive products if you are not getting the right ones for your skin. Get your skin analysed by a professional. At LIBRA we offer a free skin consultation service and will recommend products and facial treatments based on our analysis, your concerns, time and budget. There is a large range of products available in the shops so we stick to SOTHYS (pronounced "So-Tis") in the salon as they are a range we know, understand and trust. We try to keep it to the minimum we feel you require based on your concerns and respecting your budget. We also have samples we can give you ( not something you usually get on the High Street ranges) so you can see if you like them, you can experience the quality and see how long they last!
You will initially pay more for products such as SOTHYS but bear in mind that you are paying for the research into the most effective, good quality and up to date ingredients. The products are prescribed specifically for you and are designed to do what they say they will do plus they often last longer because you do not need to use as much product. Look out for our regular special promotions on products when we offer reductions on specific items or gift packs so you can get more for your money.
A regular facial is beneficial either as a treatment for specific concerns or even just a Mini Facial as it allows us to regularly update your skin analysis so we can ensure you are always using the right products.
Your skin is an assett that deserves the best possible care!
We look forward to seeing you soon for that consultation, Su.
Why are salon products so expensive? Why pay £40 or so for a moisturiser when I can get one in BOOTS for a fraction of the price?
See in the answer above. You will initially pay more for products such as SOTHYS but bear in mind that you are paying for the research into the most effective, good quality and up to date ingredients. The products are prescribed specifically for you and are designed to do what they say they will do plus they often last longer because you do not need to use as much product.
As part of our consultation process we advise you on the right products for your individual skin so you avoid buying the wrong products. You wont be much better off buying less expensive products if you are not getting the right ones for your skin.
